AIRMAN ANDREW P. POWNALL
Air Force Airman Andrew P. Pownall graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Pownall is the son of Kathleen A. Marchelleta of Etna and Paul W. Pownall of Menands, New York. He is a 2013 graduate of Tech Valley High School in Rensselear, NY.
CAPTAIN LESTER SLATE
Captain Lester Slate was honored at Senator Angus King’s office with a distinguished flying cross, an air medal, and seven other awards that he earned in 1945 during World War II. There were several State Dignitaries and about 40 friends, relatives and staff present. Slate is a 40-year military veteran, who served during three wars. He spent 30 years with the US Coast Guard and 10 years in the US Navy. He is 91 years old, retired and resides in Exeter.
