THE SAFE PLACE FOOD PANTRY: The Safe Place Food Pantry is serving the surrounding communities twice a month according to the following schedule: The first and third Wednesday; Bradford, Hudson, Glenburn, and Kenduskeag. The first and third Thursday; Corinth, Charleston, Exeter, and Garland. The public is reminded that if the last day in the month is a Wednesday, the pantry will not be open for distribution that week. Food will be available the following week instead. New visitors need to fill out a short application and bring a photo ID. The pantry is open for applicants Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 3:30 PM. FANTASY RACEWAY: The Fantasy Speedway in Unity Plantation will hold its next race on Sunday, July 8th. The races start at 2:35 PM and feature 1950’s style dirt track racing with jalopies from the 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s. The track is run as an all-volunteer, non-profit historical preservation organization. Admission is $5, kids 12 and under are free and concessions will be available. SUMMER CONCERT SERIES: The Stewart Free Library presents the next installment of its summer concert series with Ken and Jane Brooks. The duo will be performing vintage acoustic music at the bandstand in the village center on Thursday, July 5th starting at 7 PM. The public is invited to bring their blankets and chairs and enjoy these 2012 Maine Country Music Hall of Fame inductees in a free, open air concert. DEXTER COMMUNITY BAND SUMMER CONCERT: The Dexter Community Band will appear in concert at Pleasant Meadows Estates on Park Street on Tuesday, July 10th beginning at 6 PM. BOARD MEETING: The Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District’s Board of Supervisors will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, July 11th at 9 AM at the USDA Service Center located at 42 Engdahl Drive, Dover-Foxcroft.
The public is encouraged to get involved in conservation efforts by participating in meetings, volunteering and/or serving on the district board. Any interested person may participate in meetings and also inquire about becoming an associate supervisor. CAR WASH AND PUBLIC SUPPER: The family of Ann Mathews Duncombe is holding an all day fund raiser event on Saturday, July 14th. The day starts with a car wash from 8 AM to 12 PM in the Cianbro Parking Lot on Main Street and ends with a spaghetti supper at the First Congregational Church on Somerset Avenue.
